What is Occupational Therapy?
    
Occupation Therapy (OT) is a health care profession aimed at enhancing the lives of children through the use of functional activities.  An occupational therapist works with the child and their family on those areas of development that are difficult through play, exercise, and practical functional skills in order to achieve greater independence in their life roles.

Who would benefit from an Occupational Therapy Evaluation?
    
Children with difficulties in the following areas would benefit from an OT evaluation:
      * Fine/Gross Motor Skills
      * Visual Motor Skills/Handwriting
      * Visual Perceptual Skills
      * Self Help Skills/Activities of Daily Living
      * Feeding/Oral Motor
      * Sensory Processing/Sensory Integration
      * Attention/Alertness
      * Strength/Endurance/Coordination

What treatment activities are used during an occupational therapy session?
    
A variety of different treatment activities are used during sessions.  The activities are selected by the occupational therapist based on the specific needs of the child and may include:
      * fine motor activities (i.e grasping and stacking cubes, stringing beads, coloring 
         with a crayon, or cutting paper)
      * self care activities (i.e. eating with a spoon/fork, putting on socks/shoes, 
         buttoning a button, or tying shoes)
      * visual motor activities (i.e. drawing shapes and letters, writing a word or 
         sentence)
      * sensory activities (i.e. swinging, jumping, exploring various textures, blowing 
         bubbles, yoga/movement, or using therapeutic listening CD's)
      * feeding therapy (i.e. using the SOS-Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to feeding)

Peach state serves BCW programs in Gwinnett, Hall, Walton, Barrow, and Fulton counties.

What are your hours of operation?
    
Peach State Pediatric Therapy Inc. is flexible in the days and times in which they see children.  Late afternoon, early morning, and Saturday appointments can be arranged.  Peach State Pediatric Therapy Inc.  is closed every Sunday.  Please call our office to check availability.

Does Peach State Pediatric Therapy Inc.  accept insurance?
     Peach State Pediatric Therapy Inc. accepts approved major medical insurance, Medicaid, and self pay.  We are also contracted with several Babies Can't Wait Districts.  We are currently an In-Network provider for BCBS PPO, Beech Street, PHCS, Choice Care, Humana PPO, and Nova Net.  Please call our office to check specific rates, insurance benefits, and eligibility.  We are dedicated to providing the lowest out of pocket cost to our patients.  

What documents/forms will I need in order to get started?
     New patients will need a valid form of ID, a prescription from an MD, past evaluation (IFSP if applicable), and all insurance information.
